Horrors with Sewing

We were extremely excited !!!! Kara P. and I were invited to Flop's house for a day of sewing cute little baby dresses , for Carolina's birthday . I arrived early at Flop's house ... so we decided to hang up the laundry for wonderful Mrs. Bergmann . Then we waited for Kara to come . When she came , we eagerly looked through the baby patterns . We chose our patterns , expecting them to be simple little things, although we would soon find out that only the best seamstress could figure them out !!! We started with high hopes! After picking out our fabric , we started cutting out the pattern pieces . An hour later... the pieces were finally cut out , but only after re-cutting the pieces several times and getting our fingers pricked with pins nearly ten times , we were ready to sew . And I have to say , our spirits were starting to plummet.Three sewing machines going at once , we were finally on to the sewing part . It didn't start out too well , though . Oops ! Kara accidentally sewed her arm holes shut , and one of her pieces were larger than the other ! Flop didn't have enough fabric , so she needed to find something similar to match the rest of her pieces . I didn't sew my seam right on the top part of my dress , so I took out the good 'ole' seam ripper and started ripping . Two hours later ... We were frustrated , exhausted and impatient with each other ! I couldn't sew my arm hole right , Kara's dress turned into a pinafore , Bethany was having some sort of problem of her own , and was trying to help Kara and me with our problems !( Did I mention Kara and me both were burned by the iron !) Yes , we were in a sad state ! The lunch bell finally rang , and we gladly fled the sewing room to get some fresh air ! After lunch , none of us wanted to return to the sewing room which had thread all over the place and scraps of material everywhere ! But we had to finish the dresses for Caroline ! Marching back to the room , we started again ! Three hours later ... our dresses were finished ! I had taken out seam after seam , pricked my finger several times , had a huge , ugly button hole , but it was a baby dress. I had Caroline come in and model the dress , which she wasn't so thrilled to do ! But it did look cute on her . Mrs . Brergmann said the dresses were adorable. But she had no idea what we went through . After cleaning up the mess in the room , we gladly left the sewing room , hoping never to return to it , again . However, after playing a good hour , we were perfectly happy;although we agreed never to sew a baby dress again !!!!!!!! At seven , Kara and I left the Bergmann house and told my mother the horrible experience we had sewing, but we did feel very accomplished in what we did . Now,I have to say ... I would rather buy a baby dress any day , than sew one !!!!! Oh well, some sewing days are better than others.

Thursday, July 22

The same day Flop came over to sew skirts , we also went swimming and made lotion and lip balm . So in this post , I will show you how to make Berry and Sour Apple lotion and lip balm .

*Sorry about the picture ! *

Gather your supplies . You will need :Beeswax ,non-scented lotion , sunflower oil , flavorings ( you can use flavorings such as , lemon , vanilla, almond ... Preferably use citrus flavorings. ) Dye ( the dye will color your lotion and lip balm .) Shimmer , ( you can use crushed eyeshadow .) And empty lotion and lip balm canisters and Labels .

~ Step 1 ( for lip balm )
Melt your Sunflower oil and beeswax together for 30 seconds . After 30 seconds , take out and stir , and put back in microwave for another 30 seconds . ( Repeat step 2 several times , until beeswax is melted .)
~ Step 2
After beeswax and oil is melted , put in flavorings , shimmer and dye . Mix well . Then you can fill your lip balm canisters . After canisters are filled , write labels and put on your bottles. And then you have your lip balm !!!!!
~ For lotion
Fill bottles half way with the non-scented lotion . After bottles are filled half-way , put scent , shimmer, and dye in bottles . Shake . Then fill the bottles the rest of the way with the lotion . And there you have your lotion !
Here are the finished products !!Flop made the beautiful sour apple labels! Here we have the lotion and lip balm in gift bags !

My two friends and I displaying our lip balms and lotions !
And that is how you make lotion and lip balm ! It is very messy , I have to warn you , so be prepared to scrape wax off of the tables and out of the bowls ! LOL !
~ Happy spa making day !!!

A Day of Sewing

After some begging and pleading to my mother , she finally gave in and said that I could have over my best friend ,Bethany Bergmann, to sew skirts !! I was bubbling over with excitement and could hardly wait for Thursday to come ! But somehow I made it through the week , and found myself in the car with my sister , Stacy, driving to pick up Bethany and her two sisters Bailey and Hannah . After picking them up , we drove to Walmart , where Flop ( Bethany ) and I picked out our skirt pattern , squealed over all the fabrics that we could choose from , chose the beautifully colored ribbon we wanted , and then picked out our matching thread color . We did a couple more things in the store , and before we knew it , an hour flew by , and we found ourselves walking to the car . When we arrived at my house , we quickly set up our sewing machines and everything else , and started the process of making skirts !

In this picture , Bethany looks at the directions , and helps me get started with the pattern pieces .

Flop carefully presses her seam down , and while doing so , told me how she has broken three irons !!!

Here I sew my waistband .

Oops !!! Flop made a mistake and had to take out a couple seams .

Our beautifully sewn skirts all finished ! You would not know the pride I felt from sewing and FINISHING my first drawstring skirt. I would not have been able to do it , though , if it had not been for Flops help !

The bottom of our skirts .

Flops finished skirt ! Her skirt was a little harder , because she had a flounce at the bottom .

Here is my skirt ! I loved the pattern and the material we both chose !
Flop and I had so much fun sewing our skirts , that we plan on maybe getting together again soon , to sew and make dresses for Caroline .( Flop's baby sister ) We also plan on wearing our skirts on Sunday ! The day was extremely fun , and I can't wait to sew with Flop again , soon !

In the Patch Memories

Plunk ! A wormy raspberry landed in my bucket . How did that get in there ? I thought . Two seconds later , Splat !!! A big , juicy red raspberry splatted right on my white shirt !!! Then I knew , my brother was starting a raspberry war ! I turned to look at at him just as he threw another raspberry . It missed . I picked the biggest raspberry I could find and flung it at my brother .I missed . I threw a few more raspberries in vain trying to hit my brother . I still missed . ( I have to admit , I am a terrible aim ! ) The war went on , and by the time we were tired of playing , I had big splotches of red all over me . My brother , not one spot ! This was just one thing that my brother and I would do in the patch . You see , as a little girl , All my siblings and I hated picking raspberries . So , we had to make our fun out of it .
I also remember playing jackpot while picking raspberries with my sister . The object of the game was to have more berries in your bucket than the other person . But there was a twist . If you found more than 5 berries , you would yell "jackpot!", and the other person would have to wait ten seconds , while the other person picked as many raspberries as possible .
These two games are what we played in the patch . I remember them just like yesterday . There are so many memories from our raspberry patch . But , we all still dread picking raspberries . And the two little games are almost extinct except for an occasional raspberry flying through the air . But sometimes I wish we could all go back into time and once again as siblings play our childhood raspberry games . (But not pick the raspberries ! LOL )

A Heaven Sent Friend

This is my first time being a blogger, and I am bubbling over with excitement and joy !!!!! But I would not have Breezes Through the Meadow , if it were not for my beautiful best friend , and sister in Christ , Bethany Grace Bergmann . ( I am thrilled to share the same middle name !) Without Bethany , this blog would not be here, and I would not be the person I am today ! Bethany has been such a godly influence on me . She has shown me through her actions , how I should walk with Christ and live . And I thank my God continually for sending me this heaven sent friend ! So I would just like to send all my love and thanks to my BFF , Bethany , who helps me draw nearer to the Lord ! Love, Sarah
